Resize Photo for Exam and Government Forms
Resize a photo or signature to an exact pixel size and a target file size — for exam and government form uploads.

These are common starting points — always check the exact size your specific form requires, since portals vary.
Resize Photo for Forms resizes a photo or signature to an exact pixel size and a target file size — the two limits exam and government upload portals usually demand together, such as 200×230 pixels under 50 KB. Pick a preset for a passport-style photo or a signature, or enter your own width, height and size. If the photo is a different shape, it is scaled to fill the box and cropped to fit, not squashed.
What you can do
- Exact Width and Height in pixels, plus a Target size in KB.
- Common presets for a passport-style photo and a signature.
- Scaled to fill and cropped to fit, never stretched out of proportion.
- If the size can't be reached, you get the smallest version it managed and are told so.
How it works
- 1Drop your photo or signature onto the page.
- 2Pick one of the Common presets, or enter Width, px, Height, px and Target size, in KB.
- 3Click Process File.
- 4Click Download.
Why use SmilingPDF for this
- Resize Image gives exact dimensions without a file-size target, and Compress Image the reverse — this does both at once.
- The dimensions you ask for are never changed to hit the size; only quality is adjusted.
- Photos and signatures are personal, and they never leave your device.

This tool runs inside your browser tab. Your file is read from your device, processed there, and handed back as a download — it is never sent to a SmilingPDF server, so there is nothing for us to store, read, or lose. You can check for yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and run the tool. Like most sites, SmilingPDF uses Google Analytics to count visits and which tools are used; that never includes the contents of your files. The privacy policy lists everything the site does collect.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Got questions? We've got answers.
Why not just use Resize Image or Compress Image?
Resize Image gets you an exact pixel size but not a file-size limit. Compress Image gets you under a size limit but only ever shrinks proportionally — it can't hit an exact, unrelated width and height like 200×230. Exam and government portals usually demand both at once, which is what this tool searches for.
What if my photo isn't the same shape as the target size?
It's scaled to fill the exact box and cropped to fit — the same way a phone camera app crops a photo to a fixed frame, rather than squashing it out of proportion.
What if it can't reach the target size?
The pixel dimensions you asked for are fixed — this only searches quality to hit the size, it never changes the dimensions to compensate. If quality alone can't get there (an unusually detailed image at a very small size budget), you get the smallest version it managed, and it says so rather than pretending.
Does it work for signatures, not just photos?
Yes — the width, height, and target size are all up to you, so the same tool covers a signature's typical smaller dimensions and lower size limit.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Resizing and compression both happen in your browser. Your image never leaves your device.
