Fill PDF Forms Online

Type into a PDF form's own fields, tick its boxes and pick its options, then download the filled PDF. Nothing is uploaded.

Fill PDF Form opens a fillable PDF, the kind with real form fields like application forms, tax forms and registration sheets, and highlights every field right on the page. Type into text boxes, tick check boxes, choose radio options and pick from drop-down lists, then download the PDF with your answers saved into the form itself. Each field's appearance is rebuilt as the file is saved, so your answers show in Adobe Reader, on a phone and when printed. If the form will not be changed again, one tick locks the answers in by flattening the form. A form with only printed boxes and lines, like a bank slip or a scanned form, works too: its blank boxes are marked for typing, and a click anywhere on the page adds text or a tick.

What you can do

  • Fill text boxes, check boxes, radio buttons and drop-down lists on the page itself.
  • Answers already in the form are kept, and read-only fields stay locked.
  • Values show in every viewer, because each field's appearance is regenerated.
  • Optional flattening locks the answers so they can't be changed.
  • Forms without real fields (printed or scanned boxes) get their blanks marked for typing.

How it works

  1. 1Drop your PDF form onto the page.
  2. 2Click the highlighted boxes and fill them in.
  3. 3Tick "Lock the answers" if no one needs to change them later.
  4. 4Click Process File, then Download.

This tool runs inside your browser tab. Your file is read from your device, processed there, and handed back as a download — it is never sent to a SmilingPDF server, so there is nothing for us to store, read, or lose. You can check for yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and run the tool. Like most sites, SmilingPDF uses Google Analytics to count visits and which tools are used; that never includes the contents of your files. The privacy policy lists everything the site does collect.

Your answers are typed into the page in your browser and written into the file on your device. They are not sent anywhere, and nothing is stored once you close the tab.

Frequently asked questions

Got questions? We've got answers.

How do I fill in a PDF form online?

Drop the PDF onto the page. Its fields are highlighted on the page: type into the text boxes, tick the check boxes and pick from the lists, then click Process File and download the filled PDF.

Can I fill a form that has no fillable fields?

Yes. Many forms, like bank slips and scanned forms, are just printed boxes and lines. The tool marks the blank boxes it finds; click one to type, or click anywhere on the page to add text or a tick. Your answers are written onto the page when you download. To give the form real fields instead, use the Form Builder.

What does "Lock the answers" do?

It flattens the form: your answers become part of the page and can no longer be changed. Leave it off if someone else still needs to fill in or change fields.

Can I sign the form here?

Signature fields are shown but not filled here. Fill the form, download it, then add your signature with Sign PDF.

Will the filled values show in Adobe Reader and on a phone?

Yes. Each field's appearance is regenerated when the file is saved, so the values show in every PDF viewer.

Is my form uploaded?

No. The form is read and filled in your browser; your answers never leave your device.
