Convert HEIC to PNG Online

Convert iPhone HEIC/HEIF photos into PNG images. Free, fast, and private.

HEIC to PNG converts iPhone HEIC or HEIF photos into lossless PNG images. Your photo is decoded in the browser with a WebAssembly build of libheif and re-encoded as PNG, so nothing is discarded and any transparency is kept. The trade-off is a larger file than the equivalent JPG — for ordinary photos without transparency, HEIC to JPG is usually the better choice.

What you can do

  • Lossless PNG output — nothing is discarded in the conversion.
  • Preserves transparency when a photo has any.
  • Batch conversion: drop many photos and get one ZIP.
  • Decoded in your browser, with no app to install.

How it works

  1. 1Drop your HEIC or HEIF photos onto the page.
  2. 2Click Process File.
  3. 3Click Download — one photo gives you a PNG, several give you a ZIP.

This tool runs inside your browser tab. Your file is read from your device, processed there, and handed back as a download — it is never sent to a SmilingPDF server, so there is nothing for us to store, read, or lose. You can check for yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and run the tool. Like most sites, SmilingPDF uses Google Analytics to count visits and which tools are used; that never includes the contents of your files. The privacy policy lists everything the site does collect.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Got questions? We've got answers.

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (and its close relative HEIF) is the photo format iPhones have used by default since iOS 11. It compresses better than PNG or JPG, but almost nothing outside Apple's own apps can open it — Windows, Android and most web tools can't display it at all.

How does the conversion work?

Your HEIC photo is decoded entirely in your browser using a WebAssembly build of libheif, then re-encoded as a lossless PNG. Nothing is uploaded — the whole conversion happens on your device.

Can I convert several photos at once?

Yes — drop as many HEIC/HEIF photos as you like and they'll all be converted and packaged into a single ZIP download.

Why choose PNG over JPG?

PNG is lossless, so nothing is discarded during conversion, and it preserves transparency if the photo has any. The tradeoff is a larger file than an equivalent JPG — for ordinary photos without transparency, JPG is usually the better choice.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. Everything — reading the HEIC file, decoding it, and re-encoding it as PNG — happens locally in your browser. Your photos never leave your device.
