Create a ZIP File Online

Bundle any files — PDFs, images, docs, anything — into a single .zip. Free and private.

Create ZIP bundles any files — PDFs, images, Word or Excel files, whatever you drop — into a single .zip, ready to attach or share. It doesn't look inside your files; it just packs the bytes, so there is no type restriction. Name the archive yourself, and files with the same name are all kept rather than overwriting each other.

What you can do

  • Any file type: PDFs, images, documents or anything else.
  • Name the ZIP yourself — .zip is added automatically if you leave it off.
  • Files with the same name are both kept, the second renamed to name (1).ext.
  • No fixed limit on how many files you add; it depends on your device's memory.

How it works

  1. 1Drop your files onto the page.
  2. 2Type a Zip file name, or keep the default files.zip.
  3. 3Click Process File.
  4. 4Click Download to save the .zip.

Why use SmilingPDF for this

  • Nothing to install and nothing to sign up for.
  • Handy for sending several files as one attachment.
  • The archive is built on your device, so your files are never uploaded.

Private by design

Your file stays on your device.

  • No upload
  • No server storage
  • No account required
  • Browser-based processing
  • No watermark

This tool runs inside your browser tab. Your file is read from your device, processed there, and handed back as a download — it is never sent to a SmilingPDF server, so there is nothing for us to store, read, or lose. You can check for yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and run the tool. Like most sites, SmilingPDF uses Google Analytics to count visits and which tools are used; that never includes the contents of your files. The privacy policy lists everything the site does collect.

Frequently asked questions

Got questions? We've got answers.

What kinds of files can I put in the zip?

Anything — PDFs, images, Word or Excel files, videos, whatever you drop. This tool doesn't look at what's inside a file, it just bundles the bytes.

Is there a limit on how many files I can add?

No fixed limit — you can add as many files as your device's memory allows.

Can I rename the zip file itself?

Yes — type a name into the box above the Process button. ".zip" is added automatically if you leave it off.

What happens if two files have the same name?

The second one is renamed "name (1).ext" inside the zip rather than overwriting the first — both files are kept.

Does zipping make my files smaller?

Somewhat, for text-based and uncompressed files. Files that are already compressed — JPGs, PNGs, and most PDFs — won't shrink much further, since they're already dense; zipping them mainly bundles them into one download, not reduces their size.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. The zip is built entirely in your browser and your files never leave your device.
